Impact Reporting

Communications Services

Not all companies need to prepare standards-aligned reports for their stakeholders, yet they still benefit from communication their impacts. Small and medium-sized organizations, non-profits and other entities all have significant impacts related to environmental and social issues that affect society.

Communicating these impacts does not always follow a one-size fits all approach, as some entities play unique and distinct roles in their industries.

Voluntary standards are a good starting point for companies to identify and frame their impacts:

  • GRI (designed for large, global corporations)

  • VSME (European approach)

  • BCorp (small business focus)

Dedicated analysis into the available documentation from companies or organizations supports the development of relevant impact messaging that aligns with the purpose and vision of an organization.

Case Study: Cooperative Membership Organization Impact Report

In 2025, I partnered with Labrador, a reporting compliance agency, and the National Cooperative Business Association for the Cooperative League of USA (NCBA CLUSA) as lead copywriter to prepare a report demonstrating the collective impact of cooperatives across the U.S.

This report celebrated the United Nations’ International Year of the Cooperative, demonstrating the broader international impact of cooperatives toward furthering the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

To support the project, I reviewed extensive documentation compiled from across different business models and cooperative structures active in the U.S. The report aims to demonstrate the breadth and depth of cooperative impact, including impacts integral to supporting under-served communities, as well as vulnerable populations.

With the NCBA CLUSA leadership team, we selected representative data, case studies and illustrative cooperatives to feature, based on the latest available data using independent research into different cooperative models.
